Amazing! What stood out was the service from start to finish. There was a wait when we got there but we were able to leave our phone number and get a drink nearby while we waited. We were seated at a table outside, the space heaters were really strong and cozy. Our waitress was great, super friendly and attentive. We were still there when they started closing up but they didn't make us feel rushed out at all. The food was all good. It's a really pleasant spot!Only negative is that there was an ambiguous $2 "open food" charge on the bill. I forgot to ask about it but I assume it's some sort of service charge. I double checked the menu and didn't see anything warning about this charge, at least nothing obvious. It wasn't a huge amount, but ambiguous charges put onto a bill without warning are always frustrating.
Their Burger game is on top. The atmosphere is great with super friendly french speaking waiters. There is always a little line outside but it's well worth it. In summer it's great to sit outside here.
Great French spot! Food is very good!
As a brewcade, they do have an extensive collection of arcade games/pinball machines with a coin exchange machine. If those aren't your speed, they also have a mini-collection of board games. The service was consistent with a bar... not great, but not excessively horrible. Parking in the area is hard to come by so it is probably better to Uber or take the Bart over.
I finally got to try Chez Maman and it was superbly fantastic! Tucked away on a corner hill, I got to delve into savory entrees while dining outdoors.Escargots were delightful and surely a win over delectable wine selections. Raw beef tartare was a great starter since it was a cold dish and keen to the eye. One must order the mussels! It was homely and comfort food, surely. It was an enjoyable time here!Whatever the occasion is, it's pleasant to simply just be at this charming spot. Cheers!
Too bad we didn’t take photos! Everything was delicious: crepe complete with goat cheese, warm goat cheese salad, the house burger, truffle fries... and the best expresso coffee we had in many months! Plus, authentic tarte tatin and Nutella crepe. Certainly coming back many times :-)
Amazing French Onion Soup and unique Mac & Cheese. You get free bread and butter and decent view of the city if you sit outside.
The mussels and fries were really good and excellent value. The garlic aioli served with the fries was really good too. Our server lady was very nice and attentive. We did not enjoy the veal as much. It was quite salty but otherwise lacked flavors as the sauce was a bit one-dimensional. The burger was ok, a bit dry - the caramelized onions as advertised on the menu are just lightly sautéed onions (see photo).
I love love love this place. Such fantastic food. I would eat here everyday if I could afford to :-) Please get in here now and try everything.
Loved the food. We ordered Chicken and Mushroom Crepes, Garlic mashed potatoes, French fries, Berries & Creme fraiche and Warm Chocolate Fondant for dessert. Mushroom crepe and Chocolate fondant were amazing. Aioli dip that comes with Fries makes you want to order more fries. Service was very good. Best place for a good brunch. Wasn't very expensive either.
Our go-to for authentic French cuisine. Excellent food and overly friendly service
Exquisite mussels! Good atmosphere and great service: staff is friendly, flexible and open to adapt to customer s requests. The quality of the food is exceptional! Very good for an amazing Saturday brunch!
One of my most favorite restaurants in the city. I'm very biased towards this location vs the one in Hayes Valley. I think the food is just a bit better here (and it's closer to where I live). ;)You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. But one small critique is that I had the impossible burger and while it was pretty good, I think their burgers are generally overpriced.
This is my second time here and believe me I did not get disappointed. Claire my bartender was so friendly and adept at what she does. It was a refreshing moment to be able to speak French with her while I live in San Francisco. I’m a very picky eater and believe me when I say I had the duck dish twice with the creme brulee both times I was there and it was consistently good. I was impressed about how busy this place gets on the weekend and Claire still manages to keep everything under control. I highly recommend Chez Maman East.
We enjoyed a delightful lunch. I had a nicoise salad with grilled salmon. My friend had crepes and we finished off with the most amazing passion fruit gelato. Wow! The staff was very kind and each one went out of their way to make sure we were having a nice experience.
My Favorite casual French restaurant in all of California! Their menu offers lots of authentic French options to choose from. Everything I have tried, I have never got disappointed. I would strongly recommend their steak and fries, hachis parmentier & french onion soup. Heard their moules (mussels) and buckwheat crepes are very delicious as well, can’t wait to try next time!
The best spot in the area. Amazing food, friendly staff and prices are actually reasonable. The selfish in me wants to keep this place a secret, but they are amazing and deserve all the recognition. Wish they would open up more spots in the city❤️
Great food, thank you trip advisor for sending me there!!
We had a nice lunch of salmon burger with fries, salmon panini sandwich with salad, two beers, and split a dessert for a very reasonable price. Great staff, too! Am looking forward to returning.
Chez Maman East is a nice bistro located in Potrero. It's a casual place to eat with limited seating meant more for couples and small groups. Their main menu has courses for lunch and dinner and on weekends include a brunch side menu. We've veen here a few times having tried their burgers and mussels. Their burger is the popular menu choice with a beef patty that sits on a ciabatta bun drizzled with horseradish mayo sauce. Each burger includes greens, tomatoes, and grilled onions. You can get cheese for extra, but I advise against the roquefort. Even though the cheese is great it overpowers the burger. I prefer the cheddar instead. The fries are classic skinny and crispy. Their French onion soup is also a popular item. It's sweeter than others, but less of beef stock flavors, although the cheese they used was great. Overall the meals here are pretty for a bistro and Ibwould come back again to try more dinner entrees eventually.
An amazing restaurant with a great view, authentic French food located in a good neighborhood. Service and food are great. My favorite is the French onion soup and the duck confit.
Best French onion soup ever. And the lemon grass muscles are amazing. In a city with so much amazing food this place stands out and won’t break the bank. Check them out or there Hayes valley location. You can’t go wrong. And once again make sure you get the French onion soup
Fantastic atmosphere and great food. The service is spectacular. If you are in the mood for good French food, this is definitely the place to go.
don’t get the burger - although flavorful, it was way overdone. fries didn’t seem freshfor a $20 burger (added cheese bacon mushrooms) i expected better.
Loved the beef tartare! Cute little restaurant with limited street parking. Service was great. Very busy on a Monday holiday for lunch.
The French onion soup here was very good! The crepes are awesome. They also have very good dessert! I'd totally recommend this place without any doubt.
Neighborhood bistro cooking up home-style French fare like mussels & burgers in an intimate setting.
This place is just the best for French food lovers. The service is great.
Super small restaurant and there is likely a wait. But the food is super yummy and worth it. The carpaccio was seasoned nicely, though I wish the baguettes were buttered. Escargot were salty and delicious. Mussels and frites were really good. Salmon burger was very tasty. Mac n cheese was a pass.
The flavors at this restaurant are worth many visits. The service is somewhat lacking in attention and timely ness of seating you at your table. Confusion about happy hour doesn't look good. Plus they don't have ketchup just in case you have kids.
Decided to come here to celebrate a special occasion. Was amazed that the place wast packed for a yesterday. Not sure if that's normal but it created a happy environment. overall. It was good anniversary evening here at The Chez maman east .
Awesome, unique crepes and tasty mimosas. Also big fan of their chicken sausage. Plus the service is fantastic. Had a picky eater in our group and their meal was taken off of our bill without is even asking. So sweet.
Excellent French restaurant. Easily the best steak frites in SF, possibly the best I've ever had ever. Cozy ambiance and great service and wine list.
Carrot soup and escargot. Amazing!
A really cozy place with a pleasant atmosphere and good food.
Lovely place with good dishes. One escargot had some sandy stuff though (might be membrane leftover or broken shell?) which affected the full enjoyment... so one star off...
Succulent traditional dishes at a reasonable price in an enjoyable neighborhood.
Very neat and accessible place. They serve large meals and for reasonable rates. I enjoyed the menu a lot and the staff were very affable and chatty. Will definitely recommend this place.
Went there for a Sunday brunch. Ordered chicken crepe myself. Taste and quantity both good. Taking 1 star away as it's an expensive place and they even added 20% gratuity in the bill without asking.
